Tuesday night in Tucson, Arizona senior Davellyn Whyte did something no other Arizona women’s basketball player had ever done since the program’s inception in 1972: achieve the elusive triple-double. The guard racked up 31 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in a double-overtime loss to archrival Arizona State on the Pac-12 Networks.
Like the true competitor she is, Whyte focused on the team’s 81-77 loss in her postgame presser instead of the triple-double, saying, “It’s kind of hard to celebrate that after a loss. I can’t even really think about it ’cause the only stat I see right now is the L.”
That’s fair, but she still deserves recognition. Congrats on making history, Davellyn!
