Stanford field hockey stuns Cal with late goal

Sep 28, 2012

With 19 seconds left in the game, the Cardinal's Maddie Secco fired a shot toward goal and Courtney Haldeman hammered it home giving No. 13 Stanford (7-4, 1-0 NorPac) a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Cal (3-5, 0-1 NorPac). Most of this rivalry game was spent locked up in a 1-1 stalemate. Cal's Jordan O'Reilly opened the game with her fourth goal of the season, but was answered by Stanford's freshman sensation Maddie Secco early on in the first half, who found the back of the net off of a rebound.  Both defenses stepped up in the second half, which set the stage for a dramatic finish.
