UCLA and USC women's tennis teams advance to NCAA round of 16; ASU ousted

UCLA women's tennis and USC women's tennis will be joining Cal and Stanford in the Round of 16 as the Los Angeles schools advanced in the NCAA tennis championships. All four will be playing at the University of Illinois campus beginning this Thursday.

The Trojans squared off against fellow southern Californians, UC-Irvine, with the trip to Illinois on the line. USC, however, dismissed the Anteaters in swift fashion, 4-0. They've now secured themselves a third-round match against a familiar foe in the twelfth-seeded Stanford Cardinal. The two teams played on March 30 in Los Angeles with the Trojans walking away 6-1 victors. And while USC was wrapping up their advancement, the seventh-seeded Bruins of UCLA were beating Oklahoma State by a score of 4-0. They move on to face No. 10 Michigan.

Not all Pac-12 teams in action advanced on Sunday. The Arizona State Sun Devils' season came to a close at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs. ASU lost 4-0 in Athens and finishes its season with a 17-6 record. But all is not lost for Sun Devil women's tennis as senior Jacqueline Cako will continue on to the singles championships as well as the doubles tournament with partner Nicole Smith.
